Hi,
just thought I'd like to share this info as it took me a while to get my head around it:

I've got the Garmin Nuvi 760 - when using it with Garmin Mapsource software it allows you to upload/download routes/tracks/waypoints to/from the unit.

If you connect with USB, then the file to pick up is Garmin/current.gpx - however this file has Garmin's extensions, so you have to convert it from Garmin gdb format to standard GPX format (you can save it on your local hard drive for conversion) - either use Mapsource to receive all data or use file explorer to copy the file.

Then I used GPSBabel to convert this file from Garmin .gdb format (garmin database..) to GPX format.. (specify Routes, Tracks and Waypoints to get all the info)

ok so far so good, now this file is in a standard GPX format.

so now plan your route, using Marengo of course! and hit GPX button.

You can now copy and paste the GPX route into the appropriate position in the converted GPX file.

Then back to GPSBabel, to convert the updated file back to Garmin gdb format.

Then either use Mapsource to send to the unit or file explorer to replace Garmin/current.gpx with the one you've just created.

Hey presto, your routes are ready to navigate!
