Crossword Resources

This site offers some tools to help you complete crossword puzzles:
  • A word lookup facility, whereby you may find all words which have specific letters at certain positions (e.g. "c.mp.t.r" would yield "compotor", "computer" and "competer").
  • A standard thesaurus for looking up synonyms and related words or phrases.
  • An anagram tool which will list all words which only contain a given set of letters.
If you do the cryptic crossword in the Times, Telegraph, Guardian or Independent crosswords (among others), I hope that you'll find this site invaluable.

If there is sufficient interest in future, I also envisage adding a section which will allow fellow crossword enthusiasts to post difficult clues from the paper, in the hope that someone else can perhaps explain how the answer is derived! This site is completely free for your personal use. It does not use pop-ups or other intrusive advertising, and runs on open source software. All tools presented here have been written by me. They are open source, based on public-domain word lists, and all source code and word lists are made available (under GPL licencing ) for download.
